Futurity?

Can someone explain --- in 4th grade level terms ;) --- what exactly the futurities are, what is the purpose, etc.
I understand the conformation shows are essentially to evaluate breeding stock, but I haven't a clue the purpose of the Futurity.

They are the same thing in basic terms... Like Sweepstakes.. the difference from regular conformation classes in dog shows, Sweepstakes and Futurity get money for placements. Usually divided up by %... by placement. But it is still judged on Conformation and still used to evaluate breeding stock.

And breeders enter puppies at various stages of development. At the time of breeding, eight weeks etc.
