Anyone know of any way to locate other B owners in a particuliar area? I'd be interested in trying to find some other B owners near me. Maybe Tucker would be able to be social within his breed and the Owners would obviously listen to me when I tell them Tucker's issues. :)

Just a question, but why is it important for you to have Tucker be social with other dogs? Or is it important? And yes, other Basenji people would DEFINITELY listen to you if you said 'oh, he is slow to warm up to strangers'...we all know that means "DON'T TOUCH!"

Well, most of us do...I know of one breeder that will go up and GRAB other people's basenjis unexpectedly. I think she does it to startle the heck out of them, and then she can tell other people how bad their temperaments are

It's not super imporant to me. Mostly, I want to meet other B's in my area. I have a neighbor that lives a mile or so from me. I think she thinks I'm psycho because, between the time I filled out the paperwork and paid BRAT and the time I picked him up in NJ, I saw her walking her dog on the street and couldn't resist so I pulled over and introduced myself. Since that occurrance 1 year ago, we have crossed paths twice. He little girl and Tucker seem to get along.

And in reference to my biting thread, Tucker has one solid pup pal. A shephard mix that is twice his size. They run toghether on a tennis court between my community and the shephard's owner's community. It's great exercise for both dogs and Tucker seems exceptionally happy when he's on the court chasing and getting chased by this other dog.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen them on the court for a while since most people use it for its intended purpose in the summer. :)

Just to let you know-some B's get on well with their "kinfolk" and some don't.

Most times B's are "worse" with their own breed then with other breeds...

TuckerVA...there's lots of people near you...The MidAtlantic Basenji Club has a bunch of members from your area. Some of us are getting together for the Old Dominion Dog Show in VA end of September. Maybe you can come by & say "hi" :)

BTW-mine seem to prefer their own breed :D lol!! We had a Basenji Fun Match in Maryland with lots & lots of Basenjis...a lot of them growly & whiney & loud & fun...you really get to see that you're not alone :D

I know how you feel TuckerVA!! I have met maybe 5 basenjis here in Knoxville, TN, but Hollie has only had the pleasure of really playing with one of them. I too, would love to have playdates with other basenjis, but I gave up on that idea and just have playdates for any breed that wants to come! :D

I want to know more about it so I can plan to make the trip!! Hubby & I are really thinking we can make this one. Is this a fun match? Do we pay a fee? Will there be any off leash playing time? Can anyone give us an idea about what to expect? BBoy, where are you?? :) Are you going??

This is a three day Dog Show. It should only cost you to park. If you've never been to a show, it would be fun for you to see. Look for us in the parking area, we'll be set up like a camping site, we'd love to see you and the kids. As soon as I get the ring numbers and times I will post them.

I'm still confused... These don't cost anything (but maybe to park)? We bring our dogs? What about chairs? Poopie bags? Is this indoors or outdoors? Is there anywhere to socialize off leash? How long is the event? We'd be there more to socialize...will there be vendors? If we go Sunday- what are the times?

It will only cost you to park.

Shows are different than "fun Matches", k-9 experiences and similar Kennel club events. This is an AKC conformation show (I think outdoors) and entered dogs are the only one's that are supposed to be there. I know people bring they're dogs to these shows and as long as they are under control, everything should be alright. Technically though, they could ask any unentered dog to leave....I would just keep them back away from the ring area and you should be ok. They take Jasper along, and he won't be entered.
You can bring chairs, the show doesn't last that long, but the gals will be there Fri, Sat and Sun camping out in the parking area, so please stop by and visit with them. Yes poop bags are the order of the day.:) I doubt there would be much off leash play time.

The (MABC) Mid Atlantic Basenji Club will be on clean up duty for the show on Sunday, so they'll be doing plenty of scooping.:D

Plenty of vendors, lot's of shopping and some good deals.

If you go Sunday and want to see the Basenji's show, you'd want to be there by 8am. If you just want to go to walk around, talk to some folk and shop, you could go later. Normally after they show on the last day, it's pack up the wagons and head for home. They have clean up, so they will be there a little longer on Sunday than normal.
