I would like to see a place for us to yack about Anubus, Basenji adventures of ancient times, and why the Australian Dingo seems to be related to Basenji.
I know a few fun african legends about Basenji...
One legend says that when the world was created, the creator knew that Man, Dog and Cat were going to be important so more clay was bugeted. When done, the creator looked at this lump of dog, lump of cat and all the small leftover parts from other creations. The creator squished them together to make the Basenji. Thats why the Basenji is more cat like than other dogs, but also has the eyesight of the eagle, the grace of the gizelle, the nesting instinct of the bird, some of the human smarts and so on.
{The creator then had some good mind-alterants and tried again with the platapus... but was too messed up) :)

There are many stories about basenji, a good book, a must have for any basenji owner is the basenji out of africa to you by suzan coe. She has some other books but that one is the best. Also some stories are on the BOCA site Basenji.org. Also suzan's husband has some stories on his website
Joncoedesign.com read the storie of the Dream Pig. As for the dingo, he is a basenji relation, so to is the new Guinea singing dog. The only breeds of dogs to ever be in zoos. They are all basically the same dog, just living in differnt areas. The dingo is just more wild because he has no competition (big cats) living on the island.

as i was growing up with the girls, One story I heard was about the basenjis in the Congo. I was told that the bushmen of the Congo would carry a basenji on their shoulders into the bush and when they would come to a lion, the basenji would be released and it would hunt the lion down. The other is , have you ever looked at the sphinx of egypt? Doesn't it look a lot like a basenji when it is laying?
Ive got two things that sort of fit in here......I hope you can help...
1. I was told, many years ago by a B breeder, that Basenji's were actually found in zoo's in the early 1970,s????????? Any truth, or proof in this????????????????
2. Male B's have up to 7 times the amoubt of testosterone, pumping around their bodies, while they are in season???? Again, any truth or proof????????????????????

That's amazing. I would love to see some basenjis at the zoo, then go home and play with my very own. I haven't been to the zoo in YEARS, but if they allow pets, I would bring Medjai just to say hi to his long lost relatives.

I have actually read some stuff recently through the New Guinea singing dog converservation society's site that indicates that the NGSD might actually be a bit more different that we think. They have been isolated a lot longer than either the dingo or basenji and have some genetically distinct markers in their mitochondrial DNA sequences. Additionally, they have a few often "misunderstood" (by other domestic dogs) behavioral signals and interesting morphological differences.
If anyone is interested... almost as cool as basenjis. :)

Medjai loved that MP3. He really gave a weird look at the computer trying to figure out who was asking for company.

Beegin did too. He ran to the window to see if the neighboring yorkie was making that noise. When he couldn't find it, he started digging through his toy box like maybe one of his toys was making it:) I do sometimes wonder if he thinks my computer is magical! All the foreign sounds that come out of it!

wow - the first section sounded rather like timber wolf to me. I'm sure wolf experts would have something to say but it did sound like them to me.
