What does the * mean?

I've noticed an asterisk next to some names on the list of people who are currently online. What does that mean?

The (*) is a log in feature where you have to ability to log in as unseen or invisible. When we disabled private messaging it also disabled the unseen feature so now if you try to log in your user name will have an astrick next to it.
Unfortunately, we have tried to fix the error but are unable to.
