...to announce our first coming litter.

Banshee has been mated by Jester on October 8th and today we have been at the vet for Ultrasound screening.

As the vet is never 100% sure on the quantities, he thinks that 3-5 puppies is a good number to count on.

We do expect the arrival of our little A's around December 10th

Today is day 40 of Banshee's pregnancy.
During the weekend we have built the whelping box for her and the puppies.

There are still a few details to follow, but the main-project is finished now. Banshee checked the facilities and gave her ok.

mostly black and white. If Banshee is pure black and white, the whole litter shall be b&w. If not, there is a small chance that we also might have red and white.

Janneke, I am getting real nervous now. Everyday I listen to Banshee's belly, if there is anything happening which could be of interest for me, I am waiting for little kicks of the puppies, but I think it still is too early for those.

I am also very surprised. But if you keep in mind, that she is a tiny and slim girl (when she is not pregnant), this might be the reason, why she looks that way now.

In normal Show Condition, she is about 8,5 kg and 40 cm of hight.

Today is Day 47 of Banshee's pregnancy. Poor little girl. She really has to carry a lot. Slowly but surely she minimizes the quantities of food. I think the puppies are growing and therefore there is not enough room left for a full stomach. But by now, she get's food whenever she wants some. Even if it is only a spoon full of minced meat with joghurt (peach).

OK, this kind of makes me worry about mating my little girl, she's only one and being pregnant is a long way off for her. I've never had a pregnant girl. Do they suffer during the pregnancy (I mean other than giving birth)? Do they get around ok and and are they able to take care of themselves pretty well?

They get along just fine... my have always run up and down the stairs, outside to try and catch squirrels... all the way up till the day they Whelp... We were even at a lure trial 3 days before Maggii whelped.. and believe me, if we would have let her, she would have "chased" for that bunny...:p One thing I will say, I do not feed them any different (amount or kind) during the first 4 weeks... starting in the 5th week, I change to puppy food, but do change the amount. (of course this was before the days of EVO and its kind, so now I would most likely just leave them on the food they have been on all the way till the last two weeks. This is when the babies grow the most... I will increase the food a little each time till the last week they might be on double what they usually would get and start adding things like 4% cottage cheese, some liver... and start splitting it up into more smaller meals. When they whelp, the first two weeks they have food all the time all they want and especially water, they drink lots....

Today is day 55 of Banshee's pregnancy. She is doing fine and "has to enjoy" the parties the puppies are having inside her. Sometimes there is a lot of dancing and kicking inside...

Puppies are 13 days old now. They all have trippled their birth weights by now and today we had to cut their claws for the first time (so mummy Banshee does not get hurt, while they are hanging around at the milk-bars). Noses are getting more and more black and I wait for the little eyes to open...

today the puppies are 3 weeks old. they have developed many new skills, such as playing, growling and eating...
All of them weight more than 1000 grams now and have had their first de-worming today.

And later this evening, Banshee played with her daughter Abrakadabra for the very first time..... soooo cute....

the small ball bath is just the first step. We do have a larger toy-tent (1 m x 1m, originally designed for children) which can be filled with about 300 balls. But right now, they are still a bit to tiny for that. This tent has also a tunnel which can be attached to the entry of the tent and the whole ensemble looks together like the head of an elephant ;-)

Our puppies always INSISTED on pooping on my son's toy train set! Something called to them that it was THE place to poop! I don't know how many times I ran those tracks thru the dishwasher!

wow, I can imagine a "Maerklin" Train in the Dishwasher.....

The 200 plastic balls do not fit in the dishwasher and are not "thick" enough for that (I guess, the plastic is quite thin and you can squeeze them without any strength). So they go into a plastic dirty clothes basket and take nice showers.... ;-)

Maybe it would be a good idea to establish a puppy toilet with those balls or even with your train-sets?

Puppies have completed their 8th week now. They have their ID-Chip and the first vaccinations. They are somehow potty-trained, are used to eat regular puppy-food meals, and listen to their names.

Two of them are moving out next weekend.

The puppies have moved out in their new homes during the last two weekends. All have arrived safely in their new families and manage the new situation perfectly. It is getting calm here, but I have to admit, I kept one of the Mini-Tornados, yes, it is true. Out of the first litter, mostly one is a keeper.... ;-)
