I just found a copy of this book on Basenjis at a local book store. The front end page is torn out though. Anyone out there have this book? If you do can you take a look and tell me what might be missing? It's a 1966 version of the book.

Thanks.

What color is the cover? There were only two printings that I know of for Basenjis, The Barkless Dog. First was 1946 (red cover) and the second 1954 (Blue Cover)

Is this the book you are talking about?

Pat,

I don't know what color the cover is yet. I found it on line and they said that it was a former library book. Pretty interesting - a library. I does say 1966 in the description. Wonder if that was a typo. I plan on going to look at it before I do anything. I'll let you know The description also says something like Watmouth's?

Basenjis The Barkless Dog is the name of the book.

Basenjis The Barkless Dog is the name of the book.

Then the cover will be Red if the first edition and Blue if the Second. I am pretty sure there is no 1966 edition?

i thought there were three editions - red, blue and tan.
i have a tan/brown cover from 1976. i know the tan cover has considerable more pages than the blue copy. i've never had my hands on a red edition. i found my copy at a used bookstore, autographed for $10.00. i felt like i was stealing it as i paid for it <gg>

Good to know, as I have not heard of the "tan" one... but still it is not from 66?

I got a copy of the blue book on Abe Books for $23. When I got it, there is an inscription and signature by VTW inside.
Would anyone be willing to compare books to see if my inscription is real?

Thanks.

Our Blue cover copy is 1966 as well. From what I see on the publishing page, the publishing is as follows:

First Published December 1946
Revised Edition January 1954
Reprinted December 1966

On the bottom of the publishing page the following is written:

Made and Printed in Great Britain by WATMOUGHS LIMITED IDLE, BRADFORD AND LONDON

Cool! After seeing these go for over $100 at the National, I felt like I was stealing this book before I found the signature!

Thanks,
