View Full Version : Pug Puppies Arriving Anyday
My pug Gracie is looking fit to pop at the moment. She is coping well, a little uncomfortable in the heat and keeps growling in her sleep  I think the babies must be moving around and annoying her. She is due this weekend but im thinking she will pop before friday!
She has been scanned with 4 pups... I guess they must be big ones!

Wow, she looks like I felt right before I had my 8+ lbs son. Bless her heart. She is carrying the weight good though;). I hope she will have them soon, and that whelping will be as a much of a breeze as it can be. I can't wait to see the picks of those little flat nosed guys and gals..Good luck..

Wow! Are you sure there is only 4 in there? :p
She doesn't look like she will be able to bend enough to bite the cords on the first couple of pups. Is this something that occurs in the breed?
Well, the lady who scanned Gracie only saw four, i guess there may be more. Im told pugs dont chew the cords, and very often have no maternal instinct at all!! So we have to be prepared that if she does have a healthy litter we may have to be very hands on with raising them.
I will certainly post pics!

Good luck to mom and babies and the human also. Mom will do fine. When our Shiba had her only litter she was not sure as what to do and would not tear the bag off her first puppy. Spice wanted to hide it in the blankets I was happy we were there to help her. For some reason she had her smallest puppy first and middle size in middle and her largest was last he was big. She did ok after we helped her with the first one. Good luck let us all know. 4th of July could really be banging and going.

There's a Pug that comes to the dog park and he so friendly. Buddy tries to play with him but Buddy's too overwhelming and the Pug hides between my legs and looks up at me with tail wagging.

I cross my fingers too, and I hope it will not be as hot weather as it is here when she delivers her puppies.
Abou tthe size of the puppies, I hope they will not be too big, my basenji was hughe her second litter too, but had 4 puppies, they were big but not abnormal big for a basenji newborn. My ibizan hound was also big, but I never thought she would have 11 puppies of quite a big size for such a big litter ( 490-570 grams )....so you might be surprised ;)
are you going for a natural labour or a CS ?

Wondering too, is it usual to do a C-Section for Pugs? I know they have problems whelping....

Aw, she looks like she's ready to burst. lol Best wishes for a smooth successful whelping! Can't wait to see the little smooshy puppies.
Thanks for all the replies! :D
We are going to see how it goes naturally and will opt for a C-section if she has problems. Gracie's mum has had two litters naturally so hopefully Gracie will too. The scanner said that one pup was a fair bit bigger than the other three so we just have to hope that she has that one ok. If she has that first with no problems the others should be easy, we just dont want that one to get stuck!!

I hope it all goes well for Gracie, lots of pics please!
We met some adorable pug pups at Blackpool on the caravan park.
She seems to have settled back down now after giving me a little scare yesterday (i was sure she was going to have them last night - on her birthday!!) so maybe she will go to her due date!
My mum is looking at buying a caravan for the shows next year so she can make a weekend of it for each of them and take all the dogs along... So i keep getting dragged around Caravan showrooms...!! Will be nice to know some people at the caravan parks for if we do go though! Maya will love it im sure.

You will love caravanning (the dogs will too), my daughter and I spent many a weekend trawling caravan showrooms! You will meet lots of people, you don't need to know anyone, I should think it would be good for you with the different breeds. I have found that people will offer help, especially when I am on my own, a lovely man with a Winnebago helped us put up the awning in the wind!
We met someone who had 16 Siberian huskies, a GSD and a Lurcher with them also someone with 10 Chi's, the Pugs owners also had Papillons and French bulldogs, you wouldn't believe there were hundreds of dogs on site, it was so quiet.

Well done Gracie!
That seems a lot of puppies for a small dog, no wonder she looked so huge. Is that a normal number for pugs?
Its not unheard of, but its certainly a large litter for a pug. Generally they will have 3-4 in a litter. Just keeping fingers crossed they all pull through as the first few days are such a worry with pugs. They are all very active (and vocal!!) and all feeding well so a good start at least.

Thank you for sharing pictures so soon..
Thanks all!
Im not sorry i missed it - far too messy and traumatic lol!!
She certainly didnt wait. Yesterday evening when i left there were no signs of imminent birth at all. I guess she just got sick of carrying the little monsters around :D

Awww....so cute! Congrats! So the dam lives at your mom's, or just whelped there? I had no idea that a pug could even hold six puppies!!!
The temperature today is almost unbearable - it is SO hot. She is certainly happier not carrying all that extra weight around!!
Gracie has lived at my mums for nearly a year now. She and Delilah, my female pug, do not get on at all. They cant be in the same room without trying to kill each other!! Very sad as they were inseperable til Gracie was about 18 months.

Sad news.... We lost one of the babies last night :(
He was the smallest of the litter and he was a bit slower than the others with putting on weight but he was fighting on and doing well. But he dropped some weight a couple of days ago so we started giving him "top up" feeds from a bottle between his feeding from his mum. But yesterday he went downhill very fast and there was nothing the vets could do for him :( Gracie is very upset. She is really, properly grieving. She just keeps cuddling around her other babies when they're feeding, like a cat. Poor girl. We've only lost two other puppies before. I always find it so hard to lose them as you really do get attached to them...
RIP little man.
This is him a couple of days ago... So gorgeous...

Thanks all. It is terribly sad, and they had all been doing so well, it was quite sudden really :(
Gracie is very protective of her babies now. If anything though, its made her a better mum! She is suddenly cleaning them lots (including bums which she hadn't been doing!!) and spending much more time in the whelping box with them. Im told that she is much more settled now. I think she was really upset last night when we lost him, poor girl..

I lost one puppy to cleft pallette - once 11 years ago - the cleft was so far back you could not easily see it but it affected his ability to suckle and no amount of hand feeding was going to do anything so we had to put him down. Even the vet was crying.
I'm sorry to hear about your little ones loss.
Thank you all for the replies. At least with the little man we lost it was quick, he went downhill very suddenly. And he died asleep, snuggled up to his mum... Poor little man..
BUT, the other 5 are thriving. Gracie is just being the best mum, she loves her babies and is so proud of them. These pictures were taken about 10 mins ago! Im off work for a week now on puppy sitting duty, im loving it! :D Expect loads of pics lol

They are turning into proper little pugs now. Their nose pigment has come through SO quickly (i have been told that some dont have their full nose pigment through at 10 weeks so these have been very quick!!), everyone has their eyes fully open and their cheeky characters are coming through now. They come waddling over if you go near the box and climb over each other to try to get attention when you pick one up :D A couple are having a go at standing/walking as you can see in the pics, and all the tails are starting to go up and over. Im told they start to curl at about 5 weeks.

Awww Jess they are adorable:D 1 question though how do you tell them apart? At least with the b's and even when we had the Buhunds they were quite easy because of markings.
They each have little marks (nail varnish) in different places ;) A lot of people use the ribbon things around the neck but i'd worry about them strangling each other!!

oowww I just posted in you other topic a question on how the PUGLETS :D are doing, but I can see they are doing great!! I cant say puglets are beautiful, but I do think they are adorable :)
Hi,
Thought i'd post a quick update for anyone who's interested. The pups are coming up to 4 weeks now and we've just started weaning them onto proper food after they were taking too much interest in mums dinner (see vids below!! lol). They are all growing well, they are such adorable little characters. Still very wobbly on their feet but they do go galloping around chasing after each other regardless!!
Anyway, the pics and vids are poor quality, sorry. Took them on my phone. But thought i'd share. And sorry that the angles on the vids are a bit odd lol God knows what i was doing...

Ah, bless them, they are so cute.
I never realized how cute pug puppies are. Such cuties!
Thanks everyone!
I just cant believe 4 weeks have gone already, i love them when they get to this age though. they're just starting to play, its so cute!
I will try to get some more at the weekend but im having to stay away from the pups a bit. Got 4 people from work off with confirmed swine flu and im paranoid about passing something on to the pups...!

Fingers crossed you don't get it Jess, I am almost resigned to the fact that there is a high chance of me getting it, we meet so many members of the public at work, at least two local schools have been told that they may not go back until October because of outbreaks!
I don't think you can pass it on to dogs but I think I would worry as well!
So far i do seem to have avoided it. I just get so paranoid when we've got babies incase they pick up anything!!
But anyway, millions of new pics taken about an hour ago:

Yes im planning to keep DeeDee and Michael at the moment. My mum will be keeping 2 (definately "Jeanie" as she just adores her, but not decided on the other). We will probably end up keeping the leftover one too, at least to run on and see how they all look. Theres really not much between them at all at the moment :D
Theyre definately a handful......!!

Maya, maybe you have already told us, but I don't remember so I am asking again..are you keeping any of them?
It would be really hard for me to not keep at least one..they are the cutest little things, I love the second pic with the two pups coming towards the camera with their mouths in attack mode..and the third from the bottom, how cute, with all those little puppy rolls..shoot, I love 'em all.
Between me and my mum we are keeping them all! :D
DeeDee and Michael are my two, we still havent decided who will take the leftover one, probably me though lol. I couldnt bear to part with any of them :D
