hi i own a female and i would like to let her have a mate. She is very sweet and loves dogs. I want to breed her once before she passes away. She is 5. Please try and point me to someone who can help me....or if you can. I cant afford to much to buy one but I will care for it VERY VERY well once I have it. I have 6 dogs. I am selling 3 of the huskies and i would like to share my home with another Basenji. I would like a red/white male unnuetered basenji. I love this fascinating breed.

Twiddles, please see the thread Good Breeder vs. Bad Breeder in the "Breeder Talk" category. If you really care about this breed, you will spend some time exploring why no responsible breeder is going to sell you a intact male nor allow your bitch to be bred to one of their studs. Any breeder who will sell to you, without requiring that you spay your bitch, is not someone I would refer puppy buyers to.
Breeding of dogs is something to be taken very, very seriously. Responsible breeders spend thousands of dollars testing, and preparing their breeding stock. Hundreds of basenjis wind up in rescue every year because people 'just wanted to breed their girl once'....hundreds of basenjis develop Fanconi and PRA every year because breeders said 'the vet says my dog is healthy'
Please re-think how important it is to you to breed your bitch!

Twiddles, there are many good breeders on this site and more to be found doing some research. Plan your next Basenji, even if you have to wait a year or longer, and drive many miles to get one. Your wait and effort will be rewarded with a quality dog that you will be happy with and be very proud of.
BRAT is also another option to go, so many good dogs are in need of a good loving home.
