View Full Version : Congo: WA - One-Eyed Brindle B
I got a couple photos last night but the lighting is terrible to see his true color. He's a dilute (blue) Brindle, quite striking. Only a couple snarks and he settled right in with my 2 RR boys. He likes to play quite a bit with the younger one.
Such a nice boy, someone is going to hit the jackpot with this one.

He looks gorgeous, but then again I have a weakness for brindles..yes tell us more, what is his story..?
I don't know much about him yet. He's a little over a year old (not sure how much over); has pink pads and a pink and black nose. He lost his eye as a puppy and was sold that way by the breeder. I don't know his pedigree, I'm trying to figure out more information about it. I just got done taking the pups out and I got another 20 or so shots of him, I'll post the link in a minute as soon as they are done uploading!
OK more like 50 pictures! LOL Isn't he a knockout?

Interesting! His eye color looks like the same color as my blue mali's. Her nose is not-quite-black. Looks black, but if you look really close, it's not. Her pads are a pinky/taupe-ish color and her nails are a blue-ish brown.

He's a great looking Basenji!! My second Basenji Nika lost her eye at 10 years old and she adjusted quite quickly. The internal lens became loose and slipped, the eye turn cloudy, then blood red. She ran around just like she had both eyes.

My daughter is interested in adopting Congo... we need a few facts...

How to get him to Kansas: Fly? Would be one heck of a BUR run, he's in WA state (Vancouver, bordered with Portland, OR). He's pretty bomb proof so I think he could fly just fine. I dropped several noisy things on purpose last night when he wasn't watching and he just looked.
Cats: Yes, he's good with cats. No screaming, pulling, chasing, etc. He goes up curious and just looks at them when they make funny sounds.
House Trained: Yes, not 1 accident. Figured out the dog door in less than 5 minutes by watching the other 2 and taking a couple turns himself.
Crate Trained: Yes. He whines a little bit when put in, not too loud and only 5 minutes or so. He bolts out when opened, we've been working on this the past 2 days and he's getting better!
Male Dominant: No. He likes other dogs and would do best with a playmate. He is intact and will be neutered Friday. At a LC trial on Sunday he met plenty of other B's and hummed at a few but no lunging or screaming, etc. Properly introduced I feel he would fall in line with the current boss with no problem.

squirrels and rabbits are NOT my friends. and blowing leaves, and birds, and ... well you get the idea. lol

My experience is that brindle boy basenjis are the most perfect dogs. Mine has never done anything wrong and has full house prividges even when we're not home. Always has. I was hoping you could place him near me so that I could see him often and maybe help train him. But, unfortunately, I'm not in the market for another pup.
Jonny b - maybe with only one eye this one would only see 1/2 the squirrels, rabbits, leaves and birds

Ha, ha, ha...yeah, I guess you could say that I could fill my home with basenjis - I have added one a year for the last 3 years. :) although this last one counts for at least 2 (I have my hands full). :D. So I can take off at least a year before I add another. :D:D

Jonny, Congo was snatched up in less than a week! He really is a gem and he'll have a full time companion as well (3 year old Female B) which he really needs as he's so playful and loves to snuggle. I can't tell you how many times my 80 lbs ridgeback puppy has plopped himself practically on top on Congo and he's just chill with it all.
Bless our adopters! To look past his flaw of only having only eye and seeing what a truly golden boy he is was so great! His neuter went fine and he travels to his forever home this Saturday.

Congo was very lucky to have Andrea offer to take him in and foster him. Without her, we wouldn't have been able to rehome him as quickly as we did.
BRAT does need foster homes..its a bother, it can be a pain, but oh, when you see a dog turn around, its wonderful.
If any of you have time, we can sure use you!

I know Congo personally... I know who his breeder is and the lady that's had him the last year or so... I KNOW HIM... I'm curious about the other 2 B's that lived with him... I never met them but I know it was a male and female, the male was brindle and named Taz...
Congo is about 11 months old so not yet 12 months... He lost his eye while a bigger dog attacked him not from the breeder... The lady that had him was a BYB and when I was there had over 20 dogs...Even time I visited she had different dogs and the older one would be gone (she never said were they went)... She had an older B Girl (the mother of my baby) that was put down because she wasn't social...the litter (my baby's litter) died because she over wormed them... The place was horrible when I was there, dirty, the dogs were always outside with not attention or stuffed in crates with WAY to many other dogs, one time she even had a 6 month old female in the yard with all those males and was in heat, the poor baby got bred to a HUGE male...
I was so worried about Congo and the other 2 B's in the house when I found out that they were going through a devorce... I don't know if you are aloud to or even know about Taz and the little female but I'd love to know they are okay too...
I'm glad Congo is okay... He's a VERY Sweet Boy and very loving, he loved to play with my B when we had play dates...
By the way I can't remeber correctly but I think he's a Fanconi Affected (not 100%) both of his parents were Carriers...so Hopefully you guys test so that the new home knows for sure

I know exactly what happened to the 2 b's that were in that house of horrors.
They were turned into the local humane society. I went down and talked to the shelter, and they let me send some BRAT folks *who drove over 80 miles one way* to adopt them.
They were a mess, skin a bones, intact and very scared. Anyway, they are now well loved house dogs with a loving family in Seattle. Fixed and vetted...doing great. I just got photos and did not even think they were the same dogs..
That woman, well, she was going to breed them all!
Yes, this woman should never have another pet...of any kind.
sharronhurlbut
10-27-2009, 12:40 AM
Oh, I meant to add the 2 other b's were bought from other "breeders" who sell dogs via credit cards, to anyone who has the credit limit to buy them.
I could never find out what breeders, but they never knew how these dogs lived or how they were treated.
Thank heavens we have mostly great breeders who are responsible on this list.

Congo is from New York if you go on to Breeders.net (I think) her ad was on there last I checked... She breeds the blues...
Congo has been Fanconi Tested... I believe the lady that gave him up asked me what it ment to be infected... that's why I mentioned it...
The 1 others I'm thrilled to hear they are okay... Like mentioned before I wish I would have known... I would have taken them off her hands gladly... I would have found good homes my self or given them to BRAT...
They are siblings...
And she talked about breeding them together... I think I know were she got them from but I doubt the breeders know that this is the life there puppies were living... If I can recall I've talked to both and both asked exstensive (spelling sorry) questions about the homes... The lady lied to them, she even lied to me, said she'd been raise around B's and been breeding them for years.. (lesson learned, my B Boy turned out to be deaf)...
If you could post the pictures I'd love to see how they are doing now... Congo Looks 100% Happier in the pictures that I saw then what I EVER saw him at her house...

Ducati457, Congo now know as Patch came from north Carolina.
She sent me some kind of form that says he is a carrier, but I don't know if its a dummy form as Lisa has not been able to varify it from the website.
So, I asked the new owners to get him a cheek swab..I inform all the adopters of the cheek swabs and strongly suggest they have them done.
You have a deaf boy? I just picked up a girl who was with a woman who *through no fault of her own* became homeless.

I had a Deaf Boy...I bought him to show just like Jazz (who you picked up the other day)...When I found out he was deaf I placed him into a forever home that could spoil him rotten...
I didn't know about the conditions of her house until after I bought Clark... It was my first show Dog... As well a Jazz so Lesson learned...
I've met alot of great people in my arrea that show so If I even decided to travel that road again I'll know who to talk to...
When things settle out with me I'm going to Foster and Adopt this time...I can always get a puppy later...

So you got him from this breeder who is in Alaska?
If you hear the forever home can't keep him, I do have a few homes who do special needs b's. He would be welcome.
Deaf dogs do have a bit of different type of work, but these homes are prepared to handle them.

Yes I mentioned that when you picked her up... I tried emailing her about her papers and all that but she never got back to me... I also asked her about taking her back or helping me find a home for her and she said that she didn't have time to pay for her to fly back as well as post her up for sale again... We have one of Sharrons "Special Needs" BRAT rescues and let me tell you about her "Special Needs".
She needs to take up most of the bed at night.
She needs to not be so spoiled. (we balme this on her cuz she is so adorable)
She needs to be the center of attention.
She needs to go on rides in the car all the time.
She needs to quit being so friendly to everything. (rescues are supposed to have some baggage right?)
She needs to have cookies. (again the adorable thing)
She needs to give us the OK to get more Basenjis.
Oh and she is blind.
