So I was looking on youtube tonight for videos and actually came across a video that has pictures of MY dogs taken from THIS website/forum. It wouldn't have bothered me if the person created a montage of pictures of basenjis that they liked. But instead, the title of the video is called Sandie Roo Roo and the description says My Dog Sandie and has a little blurb about ALL PICTURES ARE MINE. ?? Um... I'm actually really disturbed by this. In fact, it makes me not want to post my pictures here anymore... And worse, it makes me want to take many of them down.

Is there any way to protect our pictures from being stolen or downloaded by others?

Does anyone else think it's strange that someone would steal your pictures, make a video, and post them as if it were their own dog?????:confused::confused::confused::mad::mad: :mad:

Actually- if the administrators would weigh in on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, I recognized the Pharaoh costume right off. Well the only thing you can do is have your name right on the pictures like a lot of people do. That's what can happen when you take great pics like you do BDawg. How did you happen to find that video? What a rip off!

If you contact youtube support, they will take it off, and may disable that person's account.

Contact YouTube. It is a violation of copyright for them to have used your photos without your permission and YouTube should remove them. Most websites take copyright violations pretty seriously.

The only way to protect your photos is to watermark them. Honesty I have looked and looked for a way to protect my photography and copyright watermarks are really the only way.

Can you please post a link to this Youtube website where you found the pictures just in case their are photos that belong to other users here.

Thanks,

Jason

Even a copyright watermark will not prevent someone from lifting a photo and using it illegally. It just means that people will see where it came from. If your photos are being used without your permission you need to report it to the website and the ISP.

I am so sorry sometimes I am happy I have so much trouble posting pictures and well I need not worry about you-tube. I do hope you can do something about this.

I just submitted a copyright complaint to youtube-- we'll see what happens. The poster has made the link private, but it's obviously still on there. :( BOOOOO!!

That is so pathetic. I would be very upset if it was my dogs pic, or kids or anything that does not belong to anybody else..
Lets hope youtube does what is right about this..

I hate to be the Devils Advocate but this is a public forum, and whatever you say, or pictures you post, is free for all.

But the forums do have alternatives:
* Public albums can be viewed by anyone
* Private albums can only be viewed by site staff (moderators, administrators) and your Friends and Contacts
* Profile albums are viewable only by you. However, you can use the images to customize your public profile

I think the only way to protect your pictures is to use a Flickr account, and give links to your photos as a way of proof that you are in fact the owner of the photos.

I agree that it would be great to hear from an Admin about the policy on member photos. I searched the FAQ and there is no info on privacy rights.

Can you leave a comment on utube to say that the pictures are nothing to do with the person who posted them and have been used illegally?

Posting to a public forum does not negate copyright. It is NOT free for all just because you have posted it publicly.

That really sucks. I just posted so many on here too! How does one delete the photo's in member galleries?

lvoss is completely right. Just because something is posted to a public forum does not mean it's not protected under copyright laws. In fact, almost everything created privately and originally after April 1, 1989 is copyrighted and protected whether it has a notice or not. As for the idea of "public domain", nothing falls under that unless the owner explicitly puts it in the public domain by having a statements saying something similar to "I grant this to the public domain." There is no such thing as a "free for all" on the internet. When people treat it as such it is illegal and they are subject to prosecution.
BDawg did not have any such posting granting people to use her images without permission, therefore this youtube person is in violation of copyright laws and can be subject to punishment.
I know I would be peeved if someone used my images and claimed them as their own. Good luck BDawg with having them removed from her youtube. I'm sure an email to youtube will get the video removed and her account blocked.

Sorry for the long explanation. I get fired up about copyright laws and the like.

To add on to that it is also stated here in the Rules (http://www.basenjiforums.com/showthread.php?t=374) of basenji forum, so they are also "stealing" from here
