OK
we had a bit of a scare the other day !
coming back from our girls 8th Bday party we get a call from ADT alarm that are back window break alarm had gone off ! this covers our kitchen and side living room
of course panic sets in as we keep Hana in that side room in her cage if we go out for a few hours
my first fear is of course I hope she is OK !
thinking the worst we get home in about 15 minutes police finally arrive !!! argghhh slow response

anyway every thing is fine ! no broken glass but poor Hana is HOWLING louder than I have ever heard her before ? poor pup

so asking ADT can a dog set off the glass break sensor ? they say dont know its set to only go off at glass break frequency ?? whatever that means

so has anyone ever had this happen their dog setting off a glass break sensor ? in the future we are going to keep her in our bedroom :)
I could see a motion sensor etc..

we dont go out to often we work from home and do homeschooling the few times we go out our usually Bday party so short couple hours max times without her usually when we come home she is quiet and happy to see us no yelping etc..

My two basenjis will constantly fight aggresively with each other while outside in the fence when they see my neighbors and their dogs outside. is mostly a lot of screaming and up on two feet wrestling but it sounds like they are trying to kill each other and it is very loud. Every time I go to work outside in my yard while they are in the fence they will do this and I always want to yell at them to shut up but it never makes a difference. My neighbors have asked me more than once if that is normal behavior for their breed and always just say that I cannot stop it. They get along with each other in the house and always play with each other but outside they act like enemies. Please help if you are having the same problem so that I know I am not the only one.

Yesterday as we were approaching the acreage where the lure coursing is done, Kipawa started to go NUTS! We've only been there once before. I swear he has a GPS system inside of him! I?ve never heard so much squealing and whining, peppered with lots of ?talking?.

I set up an x-pen my sis lent me. Kipawa had been so good in it last week when I was doing some front yard gardening. I don?t think jumping out of it even occurred to him. However, we are talking about other dogs running after the bunny/plastic bag where Kipawa could see them. All of a sudden I hear ?loose dog?. I turned around knowing it was Kipawa. I just KNEW it!

The lure course area is all fenced off, but that didn?t bother Kipawa. He had at least an acre of grass to run in and he was going nutso doing it. :) All of the other dogs were in their pens. Kipawa would zip near the pens as if he was challenging the other dogs to run after him. This is a game he plays all the time when we meet dogs on the dikes (very safe for off leash). I did get him back into the pen fairly quickly though.

When they were organizing who would run when, I put Kipawa down for 2 runs on the straight course and 1 run on the random (is that the right term?) course. I knew this amount of running would be fine for him because he runs tons every day. Kipawa only has 1 speed ? GO! He just loved the random course. Darn that bunny (white plastic bag)! It would deke him and he would have to change directions. But he's good at that. Yes, I did take my camera but couldn?t get any shots of him running. He?s so fast! I?m going to ask some friends for pointers on how to do this. I know I need a fast shutter speed, which I did have, but there's other stuff I should be doing too.

Then, rookie operator error. I remember Kevin (his breeder with wife Therese) mentioned this last summer when we were introduced to coursing at their place. Don't be anywhere near the cables. So of course when I was retrieving him after the random run, like an idiot I got too close to the moving cable and now have one nasty burn/tear on the back of one of my feet on the achilles tendon. A searing hot cable cutting into you does not feel too good.

Kipawa slept all the way home, laying comfortably in the back seat. When we got home he checked out HIS backyard and then plopped down on the couch with me. I was exhausted too, from the excitement of watching him and from the socializing. There were a lot of people there yesterday. I'm a little bit of a hermit, so having tons of people around is a challenge for me.

We certainly will go there again. It's every weekend unless the owners of the property are at lure competitions. I might have to get a taller x-pen or a cover for the one I have. The funny thing is that they had a little agility course set up and Kipawa only jumped over the lowest jump. But jumping out of the x-pen? No problem. :)

I sometimes go on Petfinder and look at all the Basenji (mostly mixes and then some are not B mix at all.....) to make sure there are none in my hometown needing a home. I continued looking into all the listings (sad to see all the dogs online). Well, I came across this one and read the description of James Dean. It was the face that got me as he really did resemble a Basenji and you do not see Tricolors too often, and the muscular body too. See attached. But you really have to go to the link to get the full appreciation. I am posting this as anyone in Arlington who has room for a special guy or knows someone looking for a pup, I think you should look into James Dean! Pass this one on!!! http://myfosterdog.org/2012/02/12/an...th-james-dean/

Does anyone get the urge to buy lots of martingales for their B's? Kiora has 3 walking collars right now and while, in a practical sense, I know she really doesn't need more...I still have urges to buy them! I just found this site: http://www.rushtotug.com/index.html and I really want to get one of their martingale leads. I had a martingale lead when I first got her and she just chewed right through it (and she chewed through Ananda's martingale lead too), and I don't really like flat nylon leads. This lead looks really strong though, and probably very comfortable to hold.

I am fostering a stray dog right now, a female, and Kiora is very put out. The foster dog needs lots of attention and socialization, as she is very timid. Buying something nice for Kiora might make me feel better about my divided attention. On the other hand this foster is putting a strain on my dog food budget as she is 60 lbs and a puppy. Hmmm.

Anyone else have a fancy collar addiction?
