Does anyone know this e-book on training?

Just a suggestion: When you see him "misbehaving" by chewing on 'less than ideal' items, offer him one of his toys and use the word "trade". In other words, 'chew on this instead', and when he accepts the toy - praise him. And when you see him get the toy on his own, praise him again. It could help him understand that certain toys are just for those times when you want to "rip someone's head off*".

(*not meant literally, only in doggy world play)

Where do you put the vicks?

Arlo does "downs" like Zoni (Aries' niece :)) does….with extreme enthusiasm by slamming her paws to the ground. Love it.

I saw a thread in Books (I think) called Basenji Owner's Manual that some of the members are saying is pretty good. Keep in mind that Lilu is part Shepherd too. She may end up with some behavioral traits of that breed as well.

Surf the puppy sections too…lots of great information there.:)

I was really impressed by how your dog trusts you and stays even when you disappear behind bushes. Was the training time consuming? I am trying to train my 11 month old pup in the rudiments of sitting, staying and coming at so its good to see what is possible with these intelligent little creatures. Well done!

The training is definitly time consuming. We started with sit and Mirtillo wasn't planning on laying down or staying for some time. I just waited untill I noticed that he was 'ready' for the next step. The laying down came when the temprature went up and the staying when it was too hot to move 😉
For every new step he gets his favorite treat. For the things he already knows he gets some normal kibble.

When I'm behind the bushes I'm still saying 'stay', so he knows I'm there. We are trying to get to 30 seconds without me talking.. But he's still a bit too young for that.

And they are for sure intelligent creatures..

I do hope she losses interest. My B girl Sugar climbs. X-pens are definitely out unless they have a lid, and then she'll scream. I can block the kitchen off with baby gates if I have visitors but not from her-she'll hop right over from a sit. She has climbed the fence to get at a squirrel, but since I watch her I got to her before she got over. I'm just waiting for the tree climbing to start!
