    Question Looking for a breeder

Recently I lost my 5 year old basenji, Daunte, suddenly.. I currently live in my parents house but will be moving out after i receive my degree this spring.
I would love for a direct bloodline of Daunte to join me in my new life but i am having trouble finding his breeder... My father has all of the paperwork to his litter...

the registration is with UNITED all breed registry and pedigree service- BLUE RIBBON DIVISION..

    Sire: DALLERS ZOO-LOO (MPU6072-02)
    Dam: BURKS STAR CHASER (MPU6074-02)

    Litter #: GMUL04-7307
    Breeder: Ruth Burks

..I hope someone can help me out, id really appreciate it.

Looking at the pedigree for your basenji if you are interested in finding a breeder with related lines you should contact Kibushi Basenjis or Serengeti Basenjis. Serengeti is in Florida and is listed in the BCOA Breeder Directory, http://www.basenji.org/PUBLIC/BreederDirectory.htm

Kibushi is in Missouri and their contact info can be found on their website, http://www.kibushi.com/

Thank you for the information, i am in FL so Serengeti would be the the better choice. Im not so much concerned with the breeder credentials as i am trying to finding a puppy that will be a relative to my puppy if possible.. I got him at a pet store with many diff. problems and we felt pride in taking in a "dis-guarded" pup if you will and feel wonderful to know he had the best 5 years of his life as we possibly could give him..

Since you got her from a Pet Shop, I would encourage you to apply for a pet shop puppy report from http://www.petshoppuppies.org/psppuppyreport.htm
And to file a report about his dying so young.

I would also encourage you to always look for responsible breeders, so you don't have to go through something like this again, and so that the for-profit only breeders are not encouraged to continue producing sickly puppies, that they do not take responsibility for, and continue over-breeding their stock.

    Please read this:

If you want a pup that you can be proud of giving a second chance to, please consider adopting from BRAT.

I filled out the form. The article is a little harsh for a person who just lost a loved one, but revealing nonetheless and eye-opening.

Getting a dog from rescue or getting a pup from a quality breeder is the way to go, imo.
That way, you can have your pet for 12+ years instead of 5.
    Sorry for your loss.

Not sure that I understand why you would not be concerned with the credentials of the breeder? Especially after losing one so young? I would think that you would want to be extra diligent to find a responsible breeder that breeds healthly Basenjis and health tests before breeding.

Sorry to hear about your loss, it is hard when they are that young. What did you lose him from?

The preliminary from the vet is a dog flu that developed into pneumonia. He woke up on 1/22 with a difficulty breathing (just breathing ALITTLE heavier than normal) so we took him to the vet, they gave him some medication (an expectorant i believe) and we took him home. 5 or 6 hours later he started breathing VERY heavily and we took him to the E.R. where they put him in an oxygen crate and at 4:00am on 1/23 he had passed. Very unexpected as he never had any health problems before that besides the hernia (which im told is common) and he had cloudy eyes (which didnt affect his sight at all) and besides his normal checkups never had to go to a vet.

And his bloodline led me to believe he was bred from a reputable breeder, searching online i have found a cpl of brothers and sisters that are healthy

Your puppy sounds like he had Iris Sheets PPM which can cause vision issues. It is like looking through a thin piece of fabric instead of seeing clearly.

Basenjis have several late onset disorders that would not necessarily be known in 5 years time. PRA, another eye disorder, does not usually onset until 7 years or later and others like IPSID, hypothyroidism, and Fanconi if you did not do that DNA test. Having Clear relatives does not mean that there are not also Affected relatives. When Carrier is bred to Carrier you can Clear, Carrier, and Affected.
