Posting Personal Contact Information

Dear Members,

We would like to thank everyone who replied to the post regarding forum rules, we value your comments and concerns.

In regards to not being able to post personal contact information (emails, phone numbers, address etc..) on the public forum, we feel that we need to protect our members and legally protect ourselves (Basenji Forums). That being said, we understand your frustrations especially now that the forum has grown significantly. People have become friends with other forum members and would like to personally contact each other offline.

In the past we did allow posting personal contact information on the forum until we started getting emails like these in growing numbers:

• "I am getting threatening emails from other members because of what I said, please tell them to stop"
• "I am getting spammed I only gave my email out on your forum, stop or I will report your forum to spam"
• "Someone hacked into my email, I only posted it on your forum, I need to have police contact you"
• "I am getting strange phone calls from people I do not know, I only posted my phone on your forum"
• "My identity got stolen it could only be because I posted my personal contact information on your forum"
• "I posted my personal contact information for another member and now I think someone is stalking me"
• "Someone posted my personal contact information on your forum and now I am getting calls and emails"

Several of those emails contained references to legal action against us or other threats. Couldn't we just say, well, you knew what you were getting into by posting your personal contact information, deal with it on your own. Legally that is not always enough when something serious happened.

So to protect ourselves and our members we decided that we will not allow posting personal contact information on the forum, We will not make exceptions, unless it's an emergency, and we will need to be privately contacted first at admin@basenjiforums.com

From the beginning, this forum has been a public internet resource and we feel that in order to provide value to other internet users who happened to stop by, topics should be discussed in public and not over private email. This is the premise of our forum community and we stand by it.

We created this public forum because a few years back, we were unable to find a publicly open resource with such a wealth of information regarding this breed. We were under time constraints because our Basenji was ill, so we decided to create this forum to help others. We volunteer our time and resources to run this form and all we ask in return is to respect us and our forum rules.

We thank each and everyone of the Basenji Forums members for your contribution. We would not be where we are today without the help of our friendly, knowledgeable community.
