In one of my previous apartments I used to frequent a particular, locally owned, quickie-type market. Occasionally, I would bring my dog. They had no problem with me bringing him into the store while I carried him. In fact, he became a bit of a celebrity because the clerks would point us out when we came in, saying "that's the dog I was telling you about, a basenji" to other customers. I had the experience of a bit of teaching about the breed. many were appreciative, some were just jerks because "they were 'real men' and they had to have a "real" dog" UUGGHH! So what's a "real dog'? Made me angry but it was a 'quickie-mart' - how angry could I get?

This is a video of one of a homeless man in Santa Barbara and his pets. They work State Street every week for donations. The animals are pretty well fed and are mellow. They are a family. The man who owns them rigged a harness up for his cat so she wouldn't have to walk so much (like the dog and himself). At some juncture the rat came along, and as no one wanted to eat anyone else, the rat started riding with the cat and, often, on the cat!
The dog, will stand all day and let you talk to him and admire him for a few chin scratches. The Mayor of Santa Barbara filmed this clip and sent it out as a holiday card.YouTube - Dog, Cat, and Rat

Cute story.

That is neat….sort of a small scale "budget" version of the "Musicians of Bremen". To keep with the theme and the reduced scale, they could add a chick to the top.
Or....that is where Chinese year symbols go when their year is up and they become homeless......they band together and form a street act. (You know...the year of the rat, the year of the cat, the year of the dog.)

I loved the video. Thanks for sharing it.

The cat cleaning the mouse had to be my favorite part, by far. Loved it.

Its fun to share good things…with rescue work, you need these type of "uppers"!
Glad to share it with you all.
