I think that a basenji puppy and a two-year-old is a recipe for disaster for many reasons. Both require and crave lots of attention, neither one can be reasoned with, both will want to play with the same toy, both can be stubborn, and the list goes. It is far too much to expect a two-year-old to understand how to get along with any puppy, especially a basenji puppy. If your heart is set on a basenji puppy, then I think you should wait until your child is at least five or six years old.Children that age understand what you are saying about the puppy and you can explain to them why you are saying it. I agree with the person who suggested getting an older basenji or how about a puppy of another breed? t one time in my life I had a basenji and a mixed breed, and they got along beautifully.
You may love all the traits of this breed but I was suggest that you talk to owners and their experiences with the basenjis and young children. One cannot count on even the best breeders to give you the full story. Please don't get me wrong. I've had three basenjis and adored them all. I got the first one when my youngest daughter was seven. You don't have to wait that long but two years old is too young, imho. Good luck.

I went to your MySpace page but could not find the registered names of the parents so I can not verify on the OFA website that the parents are actually tested Clear. Your page also does not say what other health testing you have done nor the age of the parents.

Hi, not a problem. I apologize for any inconvenience, I usually just give names once people contact me since my priority is to place for fellowship. My male is Samuel Ramey and my girl is Kiononia Basenjis's Anna Belle. Ramey was tested way long enough ago for him to be on both OFA website and Basenji Pedigree. Anna Belle, last time I looked, anyway, last time I looked hers did not show up yet, but if not, I can send verification to serious inquiries.

Did you do any other of the recommended tests for basenjis? Hips? Eyes? and Thyroid?

Interesting that your girl is not showing up on either the OFA site or Sally's pedigree site? Have you contacted OFA or CPP to inquire about the test not showing? Could be if just recent, that the results have not been uploaded yet.
Will you be placing your pups with a spay/neuter contract? and/or limited AKC registration?

I saw on the OFA site that your male is clear - do not see the girl at all AND she also does not show up on the AKC site - is she in a different registry - or perhaps her name is misspelled but I don't show any dog or bitch with the Kiononia kennel prefix as registered with the AKC. Now it's possible that the AKC has misspelled or I misspelled it - but it's interesting that she is not showing up under any part of her name.

Just to clarify something on Dwilliams website…genetic experts WILL tell you that if you breed a carrier to a clear, you will only get carriers and clears, not affecteds. That is Mendelian genetics, that is accepted in medical, science and biology communities.
You don't have to be a genetic expert to explain that to someone...just able to read a text book.

Sorry for inconvenience-Updated website profile, accidently lost half while doing so, but her number is HP31186401- I guess My mishap has lead to paperwork being too recent to show up.
And meant to respond to this earlier, depends on who they go to and specifics on spade/neuter & AKC 'limited'.

Was this a planned breeding? Only reason I ask is that she is pretty young (only 1 1/2yrs) to be bred.
And thanks for the AKC number. You might want to send the information to Sally for the pedigree site, since seems she is not there yet. Who is her sire and dam?
