I live in San Francisco and I'm very interested in adopting a Basenji!
Could you please contact me and give me more information ….
i have had numerous basenjis .. starting out with my two RAMSES and NUBIA
they had pups .. and although they were not planned pregnacies .. went to very good homes..
I still have some contact with one family .....that bought two of our pups ...
My beloved Leeloo and MAx died last year ..... and I'm sooo in need of having the pitter patter of Basenji feet run around in my empty house...

Glad you got your dog! I looked for a thread on her but didn't see it. Please be sure to get her Fanconi tested (NOT the strip tests, but the actual Fanconi DNA test) as soon as possible if she is not already tested. BRAT strip tests but does not DNA and sometimes people get confused and think a clear strop means no Fanconi. Only by doing the DNA will you know.

I believe Pat/Tanza is referring to JEssica's dog [can't remember his/her name] and Julie's Diamond.
The problem with Diamond was that while his Linkage Test was Probable Carrier, he was from a Probable Carrier x Probable Carrier breeding, which means that Julie SHOULD have been test stripping because this dog COULD have easily been affected due to the results of the parents…
and having seen it happen to one of my dogs [we are in the same club].
My dog's linkage test result was Carrier and when re-done on the linkage test was Carrier again. She passed before the Direct Test and I have no idea if they ever re-did her test on the direct test to see if it was a DNA recombination or data entry error.
Diamond's initial results [that were sent to her] were p. Carrier and were obviously a data entry issue as when they re-tested on the Linkage test he DID test as p. Affected. This was done AFTER he started spilling sugar, as he wasn't strip tested until he was showing obvious signs of Fanconi Syndrome [excessive drinking and urination].

I am with Debra… with over 5000 tested, there is room for error, it is possible with anything where there is human input.

Check the Basenji Club of Canada and Basenji Club of America websites.
Many breeders will have listed their fall breedings [this is my assumption, as mine have been there for months] on their own websites.

Do you also have children or just the dogs? 4 dogs does not sound chaotic at all to me… but I have two middle-school kids and their plethora of friends over here daily... plus my not-small-enough gaggle of dogs. Chaos is a given living [or visiting] in my house!

I think I might have to start my hunt from scratch. There is a good possibility I will move to Jamaica in the future so I called the customs office yesterday about dog policies. Since there hasn't been rabies on the island in 200 years they are REALLY strict. they only let dogs in from the UK and Ireland. Im soo mad :mad: . . . but I'm glad I found out now. Sooooo does anyone know any UK sources / breeders? ::SIGH:: I want to be an owner so bad
