Basenji Feeding

This recipe sounds good..would like to try this out.

When Taste of The Wild had the salmonella recall, due to a plant that makes it and many other dog food brands having salmonella contamination, I switched Kipawa to Acana kibble. He loves it. His coat had more shine with Taste of the Wild bison, but by adding Omega oils to his food, curry comb brushing him daily (very soft bristles), and of course petting him a lot, his coat is looking superb. :)

My Bs, aged 9 and 11, get 1 cup of dry food, along with a small amount of canned food. My male, aged 5 gets 1 1/2 cups of food but he is being fed the Prescription Intestinal food along with canned. I rarely give treats and if I do it is a small portion. The amount really depends on the type of food you are feeding and the percentage of protein and fat and the activity level of the dog. every time I hear things like that about raw feeding I ask myself the same questions.. what about Prime rib? what about steak served rare?. what about carpaccio, steak tartare, sushi,. and all kinds of meat and vegetables we eat raw..and like you mention. what about everyday handling of meat by.. uh everyone?

I hate one-sided media-attention crap like that. Sure she can sue, and hope they'd rather pay her than take her to court. But the FACT is simple– at this point it is every company, not just theirs that has REPORTED issues. The FACT is that the FDA and independent labs have YET to find any problem EXCEPT with people overfeeding the product in some cases. The FACT is that unless they have proven an issue, they cannot be forced to pull off the shelves. Would I feed anything from China? NO, which is why I spent nearly an hour yesterday picking out the dog treats. But without proof, she is just another frivolous sue-happy person hoping to make a buck.

@dcmclcm4: Blueberries can cause the stool to change color in humans but I do not know if this is true for dogs. Do not panic if it does. Jennifer Oh, and in the muttloaf, the blueberries can look like mold. So I always warn the hubby if he happens to be feeding.

Did you go to an official list? There were lots more food and brands added than first reported! Jennifer

We have fed Solid Gold before. We think it was the Barking at the moon version. Its great food but like most of the good foods its more expensive.

It is also important to consider the breed of your dog when choosing the food. Larger dog breeds will always require higher levels of nutrients that prevent bone issues and other health problems later in life. Discuss nutrition with your veterinarian if you aren’t sure about the levels of protein your puppy might need.I would recommend Nature's Variety, Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Natural Balance, and Solid Gold.

Fran, dogs don't really digest whole veggies. One thing I learned many moons ago on barf lists, if you want your dog to fill up, serve in chunks. You want your dog to get any benefit … smash them up. If you want to check it for yourself, give your dog several chunks of different veggies, check the poo. Often what you find looks pretty much what goes in. That said, mine love apples. USUALLY they chew them up. I got up to Cara throwing up 2 days ago-- on big apple chunk and liquid. Sigh. Guess I'll slice much smaller.

Let me know if kipawa likes it! Oakleys finicky and has no issues at all, even with the "salmon tunalini" ( fish isn't his favorite) The Fromms treats are also a hit at our house, Parmesan cheese low fat treats or the cheddar biscuits!

Ive just put one of my guys on TOTW, and just bought a bag yesterday. Thankfully this bag appears to not be affected, BUT… I have 4 sample packs, one of which is open and has been fed to the dog... I cant find a Production Code box on any of the sample packs ??? Should I just chuck them out, or does anyone know how I can check to see if these are contaminated ??? ETA Im in Australia, and have heard nothing about this recall, until I came here today...
