@lvoss So I am rereading this thread and the light went on. So simply I don't even know why I kept missing it. If you are breeding for traits, you do loose genes. or at least those being expressed. Sometimes I need to stop thinking and let things be actually understood.

Yes you can be unlucky with anything, but doing everything you can to ensure a healthy dog should be the top priority. My girl has had blood work every year just as routine after my firsts problems. She has no symptoms, we just caught it on the yearly two years ago she slightly elevated, last year she was more elevated. We first started just Nutramax denamarin, three months later it made no difference to her readings. We switched her to Dr Dobs detox diet and Nutramax denamarin, went back after three months and her levels went up! So now we have her on regular food, denamarin in the morning, milk thistle in the afternoon and twice daily 1000mg of fish oil. Due to go back in February and see if that works. If not we will probably have to ultrasound. All her other blood work is normal so that is a good thing.

While you might have a point, I disagree. I know many pure red lines that not only do not have that red coat you refer to but also it is a very thick coat. This did not come from Brindles. Also black masking on red Basenjis is more the cause than a bleed from Brindles. The black masking is in a number of bloodlines and was around way before the Brindles showed up. Most believe this is coming from Tri's. Black in the tail is also usually from being Tri factored. And I don't say this because I have or breed Brindles, because I don't. I just don't believe the this color is the cause. I think we have a number of lines that produce that rich red color.

@Rob5098 I don't in your area. Like Pat suggested, you can go here: https://www.basenji.org/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=111&Itemid=94 Check NY and NJ and any other state close enough for a drive.

We were saddened and disappointed in our visit there. It was our first exposure to the Breed unfortunately. We are working with Robyn and a reputable breeder in South Georgia currently. We are hopeful for a match with a young adult Or teen. Thanks for your input.

She's not a member of the Rip Van Wrinkle Club. I did, however, contact the BBB as well as various scammer websites so others who do research on her name or breeding company don't meet the same fate. Also went ahead and contacted the AKC and BCOA, so hopefully something comes of it.

It depends on the cat just as much as it depends on the dog. Does your cat run "prey-like" when frightened? I have 2 cats that have lived with 3 different basenjis. My male cat and my first basenji were pals and often cuddled together. They would wrestle and when the dog got too unruly he'd (the cat) nip him to keep him in line. My female cat ran every time she saw my dog. She was fun to chase and like most basenjis: "thing move, I chase thing!" Cody never ever hurt them and recognized that they were part of his "pack" (for lack of a better term). Cat outside? FORGET IT! He never caught one but boy did he try! My cats no longer live with my dogs (I moved and the cats stayed with my parents) and I know my female cat is much happier. Elliot my 3yr old is OK with my cats but Morgan my 1yr old chases them. Neither try to hurt them but the stress of being chased is a lot for a 15 year old cat to handle. [image: 1469113808168-1003649_10151420270322531_1939276400_n.jpg]

I use Espree Silky Show shampoo and conditioner on my girls. I have also used Crown Royale shampoo on them. Both leave their coats silly and smooth. The Espree really helps to detangle one of my girls tails. It can get knotty and dry.

They have different colors and sizes. have a plain silver one.

No surprise there as there has been a few craiglist posts from this person with Basenjis to place…ie: FOR SALE! I don't think she ever stopped breeding.

Well got some batteries for my pedipaws and showed Kaiser held it against his leg turned it on, held it against his nail turned it on said good boy and put it away. Later in the day had a go at using it for real with treat rewards since he had reacted so well, no problem always amazes me how calm he is. Went from toe to toe as they get hot and finished all of them. Do see it doesn't have much power but think it is a good start for me to use until I can get a Dremel and didn't take me as long as using clippers and then hand filing, so will use it weekly and take a little off each time. Cost me NZ$11.50 including postage but not including battery cost, so wasn't too bothered if it didn't suit. Happy me, happy basenji. Jolanda and Kaiser

Magnum, almost 10 years old, neutered at 3 years old, shows no sign of recognizing breeding season (and never has, even before neutering). Maybe there are/have been no in-heat females in the vicinity? He is awfully laid-back for a B…I'll consider myself lucky!

Here only one breeder was sending info, now there are 2 more and bunch of puppies that some friends send to Sally, will be super nice that she can get the whole mexican basenji map, but sadly a bunch of people here have breeding their dogs and not registed at all.

Ntomba Mobengi has been presented on the ballot along with 3 other imports to be accepted for inclusion in the AKC Stud book by the BCOA membership (see https://www.basenji.org/NativeStock/Applicants/List2013.html).
