So many times people post pictures and ask what folks on the forum think about their dogs. Often, the most convincing in appearance turn out disappointingly to not have any Basenji blood. When you think about it, there are not likely all that many crossbreds out there. Most people with an intact Basenji bitch are not looking to cover her with anything but a purebred male, and in North America generally females are spayed because most breeders require it for pet puppies. Bitches that are showing are even less likely to be bred to something outside the breed.
Is my dog a Basenji Mix?
-
So I adopted my boy right before Christmas this year and absolutely love him but up until recently had no clue what mix he is. While at the dog park this week someone suggested Basenji. Once I looked it up I couldn't believe the resembles. We had been thinking boarder collie/rat terrier mix before hand. Since he seems to have some major herding instincts. Just wanted to get other opinions from those more familiar with the breed!!

Looks like a basenji mix to me. What kind of sounds does he make? He's cute btw.

@DebraDownSouth He's generally extremely quiet but he does yap(more like a small dog bark) at certain individuals.
