I would say that if one had planned to get a pup before this all occurred, then perhaps it would be good timing, as it would give one the opportunity of spending more time with the pup in the crucial early days. Of course things will change and the routine will be different, but there are ways to ease into the new schedule so it isn't an abrupt shift from always being there to suddenly being absent.

Can you suggest a reputable breeder near NY? Preferably near public transportation, but not necessary.
BTW, is there a difference in personality between gender with this breed? I have no preference, however.

Go to www.basenji.org and search by state for a responsible breeder. Make sure that pups are at the very least are DNA tested for Fanconi and PRA

just out of curiosity, can you take a dog on the bus/subway in NYC? I've never been there, and I can't imagine a bus driver letting me onboard with my pup (unless it was a service animal), so... had to ask.
