Need Help In Missippi!!!

    One of my friends lost their Basenji Mix after a car accident, and sent me this flyer. They didn't even know it was a basenji mix until they emailed me. All that they knew was that they had a dog that they couldn't "chase", has no undercoat, and is an escaper. :(

    The dog is skittish. People have spotted it though, and there is still hope. If any of you could help them find their dog, it would be much appreciated.

    Oh, you are a good friend. I do hope their little girl Daisy is found and back home soon. She looks like a Basenji mix to me - so cute and sweet. Wishing you all the best of luck in getting her back. Please let us know - fingers crossed.

    I feel so sorry for them. They sent me this in an email, and I sent them a response asking them if they were sure of the parentage. They told me that they had rescued the dog from a life of being on a chain neglected in a backyard, and the owners had told them it was pit/lab. So I started asking them questions like: Does it have an undercoat? Does it sleep in bed? Does it counter-surf? Does it bark? Can she stand her ears up?…Wrinkly forehead when she does?

    Every answer was a basenji answer.

    The only "good" to come of this, if there is a silver lining, is that they are applying to join basenji companions, and basenji rescue. Basenji Rescue really needs more help in Texas which is where they are from. They also are happy that they can find another dog with the same characteristics as their "Daisy".

    I can't imagine life without basenjis(as I sit at the kitchen table with a dainty black/white Katy on my lap).

I used to have 3 basenjis who would go nuts on leash if they saw another dog or huntable critter. They would bite anything (including eachother) in the heat of their excited frustration. I had this with my two Basenji girls.....it's transferred aggression.....if you can't bite the one you want to bite, bite the one you're with! My last Basenji boy could be trouble if he saw a dog he didn't like. I was careful to keep him at arm's length if he really got revved up, or else my clothing could become a target. Agree, keep the cat and dog away from each other, although with the best of intentions, sh*t happens and critters manage to get where they should not be. One of the reasons I think "no" is the second most important word in a dog's vocabulary (after "come"). As such, IMO it should be reserved for important situations and always be enforced. It means "stop what you are doing right now!" And yes, there are instances where you might want to raise your voice. Again, done only when it is important, this can be effective. Do not poison your important control words. Use them only when you mean it and make sure you are obeyed. For less important occasions, use a different word. You do not want to teach your dog to ignore you when it's critical for him to pay attention.

    I just bought Bella some Merricks Grammy's Pot Pie (dry). It sounds so good I'm tempted to give it a try, LOL!!! I haven't given it to her yet, I'm trying to time it out so I can introduce it slowly… I had to get it at a feed & seed supply store. It IS sad that people are uneducated about the differences of dog foods… but what is worse is that some of these companies don't care how bad the food is for our pets. Another example of how money is more important in their pocket... BTW, for treats we like Old Mother Hubbard!!!:D

    Once you do get a list of vet hospitals go and visit them and ask questions. In my experience the good ones will let you see their examining rooms, boarding area, etc., and are quite willing to answer questions (including prices).

BDawg-you said it better then I ever could :D it is a true marriage in every way, shape, & form. There isn't ANYTHING I wouldn't do or sacrifice for my two pooches. I told my DH that I would sooner give him up then my dogs :D :D I'd never leave my dogs no matter what. He told me we'd have a bitter battle over the…lol :D BTW-I know EXACTLY what you mean by that "bond" they trust you to protect them & take care of them & love them.
