B-less hello from CT.

Member Introductions
  • Just thought I'd drop a hello since I'm going to be at least fostering a Basenji in the near (Hopefully very near) future.
Dogless at the moment because I recently found an absolutely perfect home for my lab/shep/? foster of 5-months, and I've been eyeing the breed since I first happened across them at the dog parks.

I'm talking with the coordinator from BRAT (lovely rescue) about Bs who might potentially be ok with using my home, so it's only a matter of being placed with the right one.. I've done my share of reading and talking to B owners.. and, well, all of it's just horrible. This dog is going to come stomping in with laserbeam eyes and just plow through everything I own, leaving me sobbing in a pile of debris, less one cat and one bf.
    Yay..!

  • Hello! Welcome! Where in CT are you? I have 2 B's and am often in Hamden…

  • I'm in New London for a little while more. Trying to move out of this area (But cticking within.. probably 30min of.) :)

  • I know it's NJ, but I found this guy online today. He's a rat terrier, but awfully cute. http://www.dogster.com/dogs/662397

  • No, no! I'm not looking! lol
I'm going to be placed, and waiting patiently for that, hehe. But thank you.

  • Hi Corvine,
I grew up in Waterford, have a house in Montville, I have a Tri mix, you can access my profile under name Stellabella. During the summer I operate RESOLUTE at Mystic Seaport, Stellabella is my faithful assistant, and entertains the passengers, She is an official Seaport volunteer.
We think she is the best dog in the world, was a rescue, has the sweetest personality, Basenji's forever! Stellasperson

Aggression is an all encompassing term. As pointed out above, there is quite a range! It is not unusual for Basenjis to be dog aggressive. Mine is, and I just avoid other dogs because I know his intentions are not good. Some are same sex aggressive and fine with members of the opposite sex, and some may just be making a statement when they are leashed. If you describe what you are seeing more specifically I am sure lots of people will have common experiences and possible training fixes to share. I would love to see some pictures of Tucker, and welcome to the forum!

You will find a lot of new friends here. Do you need the site to order the cheekswab? You order it and do it at home. Very easy!

My heart breaks reading your wonderful story of Dinah - it is so clear she is a huge part of your heart -you will have such wonderful memories of her when it is her time to give up the pain. I also do not believe dogs don't have souls - of course they do - the unconditional love they give, the way they try to help when you are emotionally suffering, the joy they get when they see you coming after a separation - all these and more are proof they are very soulful. A loving companion dog is God's gift. All our hearts are with you, and our tears flow with yours. God bless.

Bungwa has a very dry mouth and I only managed to get a very tiny white patch on the test card but it was still sufficient to do the test with that. It only turns white when it's dry - the instructions are quite explicit. Of course as Pat says it could be a bad test form.
