Lenny has a new coat!

  • Actually, I bought them coats from Walmart or somewhere a while ago and just copied it from that. The coat fit Tayda well, but was a bit small for Lenny. So I made him one of the same design but just a little bigger. Its just one piece with arm holes and a velcro closure, really simple. the hardest part was the arm holes, its not all that pretty from the underside, but oh well. Lenny doesn't seem to care. I can post a pic of the coat flat on the ground later so you can see the general shape.

  • Yes I would love that..Thank you so much for offering..

  • Wow, I admire you for being able to do that! Lenny really looks good in his new coat. I wish I could to that but my sewing skills are limited to buttons!!

  • Lenny you sure do look handsome love your coat and the color. Very nice job making his coat.

  • Here is what the coat looks like! Pretty simple design

  • Michelle,

Thanks for posting a picture of it for us not so brilliant seamstresses..I will definitely try to make on of these for my cold boys and one girl..

  • Hey if you want I can trace it onto a piece of newspaper or something and mail it to you… would just need to have the admins pass along your address....

  • Would be awesome..I will email admin and have them give it to you..

  • I really like your/Lenny's sweatshirt! I am too lazy to attempt it without a sewing machine :)

For knitters out there, here is a link to a VERY simple sweater that anyone who can knit a scarf with a simple knit stitch can master. It allows for variation/customization with more advanced stitches/techniques as well. My first one turned out OK, I made a few minor adjustments on my second attempt and from then on they have turned out better and better with each one I make.

I use size 9.5 knitting needles and 2 strands of the cheap red heart brand acrylic yarn.

WARNING: dogs who chew can quickly unravel a hand knitted sweater simply by chomping through a single thread! ;)

  • He looks adorable, thanks for sharing the up close pic of the coat. I may be able to make this one, it looks fairly easy! By the way, how is Tayda doing on the protocol?

  • Knitting is something that is completely beyond me! Love those sweaters though! Thanks for the compliments on the coats though - Lenny thanked me today by stealing my eggplant off the counter and eating the entire thing!

Tayda is doing pretty well on the protocol - her blood gas levels are "too good to be true" according to Dr. Gonto. So all is well in that department. She appears to be in the stages of renal insufficiency - I have to take her back in a couple weeks for follow up bloodwork to see how her kidneys are doing… fingers crossed her BUN and Creatinine are normal....thanks for asking!

  • Ohhhh, I can't knit… I'm talking about the other one (I CAN Sew)! I'm glad Tayda is doing well! I hope the kidneys check out good, I know that UTI is common in fanconi dogs...

Otis, or should I saw my Dachshund Gus, thinks stuffing is unnatural…the animals should be sold without them, and squikers (SP?) too. Both of them love the animals once they are limp, unstuffed, just the stuffed animal skin...that is when they are the best..In Otis' and Gus' humble opinion..

@hdolbow: LOL ! of courseeee!!!! when doesn't rocky make those devil noises!? i really think he is a little demon. lol One of these days I am going to have to tape the sounds she makes. It cracks me up! A little scary for other people, my mother-in-law was scared of her the first time she did it. Anymore I just tell her no and knock it off and she normally does!

@weeziesmom: I have tried chew bones to curb his chewing however he tries to take weezies and they fight over them You can teach him to leave hers alone. Make them both sit for their chew; give hers first and make him stay with you when she dashes off to chew. {helps him see that she gets one/he gets one, and also gives her a head start!} Make sure he knows you have one for him also. He must sit and make eye contact with you before he is given his treat. Once they both have a chew, make them stay in different spots. Stand between them, moving your body silently to block his attempts to get to her. If necessary, tell him "no" or "leave it". It shouldn't take long for him to learn that he gets his and she gets hers. Eventually, he will just look when you hand her the treat and will sit and stare at your face until he gets his own, then he'll run to his own spot to chew his bone.
