Upcoming ASFA Lure Coursing-GA, TN & TX

Basenji Training
  • Anyone going to these? They are being held this weekend in GA, next weekend in TN (3 days) and the Houston, TX area?

I would be coursing Arnie, my older male in the FCh stake, although he is eligible for the Veterans stake. You may have seen him course at the National in KY last year in the FCh stake.

  • We will be coursing our two Fch in TN on the weekend only, couldn't get off work. We will be in McKinney Tx the next weekend for ASFA. This weekend we are heading to Shawnee OK for AKC. I have a friend coming to TN next weekend with one Fch and 2 or 3 open. She is going to GA this weekend with them. Sounds like you have better weather in GA than I will have in OK.

  • There will be quite a few Basenji people at the GA trials this weekend including myself. There should be 3-4 FCh and a couple opens, possibly more entries that I don't know of, plus numerous people coming out just to socialize.

  • I wish Ga were closer. We will be doing more AKC than ASFA this yr as thats what the clubs in our area are offering this yr. Maybe we'll be able to get a FC on our whippet as she is the only untitled one left.

  • I'm going!! I have two FCh's. And Carrie (Andrew on the forum) is running Callie, also an FCh. And others as well, like Lisa said.

  • How did you like running in nice warm GA? We only ran one day of AKC in OK as the rain turned real heavy overnight and continued into the morning, none of us wanted to run our whippets on a slick clay hill. See you in TN next weekend with my 2 boys

I can't really afford to go down there and take time off work, but it is tempting. My club has weight pulls up here though, so if we have some extra money this weekend that's what I'll be doing. lol I wouldn't expect many, if any Basenji people at the Oberlin trial. You're more likely to see a few folks though at the trials in the Dayton area. (Yellow Springs, Fairborn, etc.) There is an ASFA trial south of Detroit the second weekend of October. I'm planning on being there if you want to come? :)

This coming weekend there is LGRA and NOTRA in Orange County. My mom has the information. I think there is also some racing in December in Orange County. Don't know what the show schedule looks like or if these conflict with any. I do know this time of year is the racing season in So Cal since the parks are available.

@lvoss: In order to get a JC your dog does not need to run with another dog. A JC is earned by your dog running the course by itself. It must pass 2 JC tests to earn the title. To certify a dog for ASFA the dog must run with another dog and show that it will not interfere. D'oh! I got the two mixed up :) But that's what I meant, lol…. Most of the lure trials we attended were ASFA trials....I think we did do practice runs at ONE AKC trial, but Jibini was less than 1 year old so I am pretty sure thats why we never did a JC "qualifying" run. I'm tempted to get back into it now that I have my own "pair".....but it always seems money is an issue that makes a 300-400 mile weekend jaunt a bit out of reach!! I also found it disheartening that there were so few Basenjis entered in Florida lure courses, and among those I met, nobody had dogs who could run with a strange dog. However, I enjoyed the time I spent at Lure trials and letting Jibini run....it was fun, even if we didn't get any "alphabet soup" for Jibini's name!!! Defintely an experience well worth it :)
