Since this is an Avuvi litter there will be more than the usual testing. As I told Charlie, the price is low bc it wasnt planned and it is African. The puppies should be UKC if I have guessed right about the father but I cant guarantee that. The price covers the testing. You wont find many breeders paying for hip OFA testing and CERF for pets. Some only Fanconi test parents.

It will all be in the contract.

As with all responsible breeders I provide support for questions and since these are Avuvis they may not be like domestics in some ways.

However, the help of a group is always good.

Over time I have found Basenji Companions to be the support group of choice.

thank you for the update. charlie keeps me informed but i get lost in translation from you to her to me. . . hahaha. . .

I totally disagree with this. Responsible breeders should and DO test for Hips and CERF, pets placements or not…. Because any pup you place should be a pet first, show/performance second and/or if a breeding decision is made.

Bad hips can cause many problems for a dog, especially in their golden years.. and CERF?, well since we have PRA in the breed along with other eye concerns, would you want to place a pup that might go blind?

And noting also that if I am breeding two clear parents, I don't test the puppies before placement, but recommend that the new owners do so. That said, if there was any question, I would test them before placement. And if I breeding a clear to a carrier, I would test all the pups before placement or if breeding a clear to an affected, same thing.

I don't think I understand this statement. Do you mean that you won't find many breeders who test parents for Hips and CERF? Responsibly bred litters have health tested parents. It doesn't matter where the puppies are going. If you mean breeders paying for the puppies to be tested, I know I am not the only breeder who does CERF exams on every puppy before they leave. As for paying for hip x-ray, that is usually the owner's responsibility but even then there are situations where the breeder will pay. Certainly a buyer can find a breeder who is breeding health tested parents and doing puppy CERF exams prior to placement.

  • You know I find it interesting I go into the data base and look up this "Avuvi" name and they are so closely related it really makes my stomach flip. I'm not trying to stir up trouble. But there are 20 names there and they are all so closely twined together.

Then there is another WHITE and red dog

  • I hope all the puppies from these litters are tested for fanconi.
It would give the owners so much inforamtion they don't have now.
