@jengosmonkey the boys, Shaka & Yoda & I lived in downtown SJ until ‘99, then moved to the city on Dolores street next to Dolores Park so that was their backyard/daily playground. More pics of them on Instagram #ShakaAndYoda.

@branch yes! And a nice and long one. His brother passed at 11 years old due to liver issues.

Today is the 7th anniversary of my 17 year old boy, Yoda’s passing. Still miss him and his littermate brother Shaka who passed 6 before Yoda.

As a new member to this forum, not sure of the mechanics of responding so will do this one, big thank you to all who posted replies. Tomorrow will be Shaka's 4th anniversary of his passing - though it doesn't seem that long ago, I can't believe it's been that long. Like you all said, they stay in our hearts and that's probably why.

On this day (Ides of March), 15 years ago we drove 3.5 hours to see a live Basenji for the first time! We picked out one, brought him home and named him Shaka. We had a great 11 years and he left us on 3/21/08 (Good Friday)! Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. I miss you boy!

My first B, Shaka came to us 15 years ago today (Ides of March) and left us on 3/21/08 (on Good Friday) - this made me realize that his littermate brother (who we got 3 months after) , Yoda is actually 15 years old (and not 14 as I had thought)! He's still pretty energetic and looks young, but now I'm more concerned. Extra treats for him! ;-)

Hey Perry! I believe we've met before at a B match a long time ago. My boys come from breeder Jo Burke in Fresno - their parents were Shady and Stance (from San Diego, I believe).

My boy Yoda is 14 and Shaka passed away in '08. They are littermate brothers and first got Shaka at 3 mos and then realized he needed a companion - luckily his brother was available at 6 moths (his top line wasn't turning out as perfect for show ring). We live in San Francisco next to Dolores Park so it's our stomping grounds. I call Yoda the Lazy Bum.
